As you know, ETCOG has been working county by county with local decision-makers since January 2021 to help identify our region's most critical Broadband needs. We are thrilled to announce that seven counties have fully completed Broadband Action Plans! Four additional counties are awaiting final edits and budgeting and are anticipated to be considered by their counties shortly.
Broadband Studies & Action Plans that have been adopted by their county are available for download on our website. Here are the project status updates for each county in our region
On Friday, November 18, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released its pre-production draft of new broadband maps. The National Broadband Map shows which locations in the country lack adequate broadband service and, when finalized, will help determine which locations are eligible to receive a portion of the $42 billion that was allocated by the bipartisan infrastructure bill for broadband upgrades in areas lacking adequate service.
If states, localities, broadband providers, and the general public have concerns about the map’s accuracy, they must file a challenge with the FCC by January 13. The overall timeline for generating a final map can be found here, and information about the various grant programs that will be available to states and localities can be found here.
