The East Texas Council of Governments’ Solid Waste Program encourages youth to “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” material they find around their home and community through an educational video aligned with TEKS for sciences for grades through 3 through 5. The video will be released to over 100 schools in East Texas through the Region VII EcosySTEM program.
“The Region 7 EcosySTEM is excited to share the opportunity with ETCOG to help develop and promote the East Texas Hero video to all 102 school districts and charters in East Texas,” said Paul Eyler, Science and Social Studies Specialist with Region 7 EDSC. “One of our key goals is to work collaboratively with local government and economic agencies to help foster STEM integrated thinking in real-world contexts.”
The video encompasses practical solutions students can implement to keep their communities tidy while showing off East Texas beauty. The fun and humorous game-themed video provides real-world, age-appropriate solutions that kids can immediately being to practice.
Video topics include combating litter, recycling, composting, conservation, reducing waste, and reusing common products.
This production was made possible by the East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG) and the East Texas Council of Governments’ Solid Waste Advisory Committee through a grant from TCEQ. It was developed in collaboration with Region VII Education Service Center and Keep Longview Beautiful. The video was produced by Media Quest.
