Illegal dumping has become an unfortunate and prevalent issue in various parts of East Texas. Addressing this problem is crucial for maintaining community well-being, but it's essential to recognize that tackling illegal dumping is primarily the responsibility of local governments, not the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
To equip local elected officials and officers with the necessary tools and knowledge, we are pleased to announce the "Comprehensive Local Environmental Enforcement" workshop on February 13, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be hosted at the East Texas Council of Governments, located at 3800 Stone Road, Kilgore, TX 75662.
Key Information:
Illegal dumping not only tarnishes the aesthetics of our communities but also diminishes property values, incurs significant cleanup costs, and poses a threat to public health. It is crucial for local officials and officers to understand that effective responses to dumping are within their purview.
The "Comprehensive Local Environmental Enforcement" workshop aims to provide accurate information to empower local elected officials and officers in developing appropriate responses to illegal dumping in their communities. Led by Dr. John Ockels, Director of the Texas Illegal Dumping Resource Center, this six-hour class will be offered free of charge to officials and officers in the ETCOG service area.
Each participant will receive a copy of the 2024 Texas Edition of the Illegal Dumping Enforcement Officers Guide, a valuable resource for addressing and preventing illegal dumping. This workshop serves as an opportunity for local leaders to enhance their understanding of the issue and learn about the tools available to combat illegal dumping effectively.
