As spring cleaning approaches, ETCOG is here to bring awareness to multiple resources for local entities to promote community clean-up events and safe disposal practices for household trash. These resources are found on the Trash Free Texas website (www.trashfreetexas.org) and are free to the public.
Trash Free Texas Adopt-A-Spot Map:
The interactive map above displays little cleanup sites in Texas and provides contact information for each site. Local governments, non-profit organizations, schools, and other entities that need help with trash cleanup can add cleanup sites to the map. Having your cleanup sites on the map helps cleanup volunteers find sites that work best for them and saves time for all involved. Entities with sites on the map also receive “Trash Free Texas Proud Partner” and “Adopt Our Spots” graphics and other materials to assist with outreach about their cleanup locations. More detailed information about how to add your sites to the map and whom to contact for help can be found in the handout here.
Community Cleanup Challenge Toolkit:
This toolkit provides resources for planning, promoting, and hosting a fun, competition-style cleanup event. But many of the resources in the toolkit can also be useful for standard cleanup events as well. This toolkit includes templates for flyers, social media, a press release, certificates, a waiver, scorecards, and even tips on leveraging existing events.
Local Government Trash Reduction Toolkit:
This is a compilation of best practices and resources for addressing litter problems and engaging residents in trash removal. It includes resources such as videos, reports, infographics, information on existing litter abatement campaigns, potential funding opportunities for cleanup and curbing illegal dumping, and more.
