ETCOG would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the Texas Association of Regional Councils for selecting East Texas as the location for their June Board Meeting, where we had the privilege of hosting elected officials and other COG Executive Directors from across the state.
The Texas Association of Regional Councils is the statewide association of regional councils whose members focus on enhancing the quality of life through regional strategies, partnerships, and solutions. The 24 regional councils, also known as councils of governments (COGs), are comprised of city, county, and special district members working together to implement cost-effective, results-oriented strategies that address statewide and local needs on a regional scale.
During their two-day visit, TARC held its Executive Directors' Council Meeting, a Collaborative Forum & Legislative Committee Meeting, Budget and Bylaws Committee meeting, and a Board of Directors meeting.
In addition to taking care of association business, meeting participants enjoyed a taste of East Texas' famous barbecue at the Country Tavern, visited the Texas Broadcast Museum, met Kilgore College Rangerettes, and viewed a short performance from actors in the Texas Shakespeare Festival.
Whitehouse Mayor James Wansley was recently voted upon by the ETCOG Executive Committee to join the TARC Board as the representative for the East Texas Council of Governments. TARC members work closely with state and federal partners on projects vital to the health and safety of Texans, including developing regional emergency preparedness strategies, community and economic development, services for the elderly, overseeing regional planning for environmental issues, and maintaining and improving regional 9-1-1 systems.
"We appreciate the opportunity to showcase East Texas and the impactful work accomplished with the support of our local communities," said Executive Director, David Cleveland. "The support and guidance we receive from our regional councils have been instrumental in community growth. We are incredibly grateful for TARC's unwavering commitment and assistance in implementing innovative solutions and driving positive change throughout Texas.
