The East Texas Council of Governments is excited to host an Advanced Illegal Dumping Workshop in Tyler, on August 8, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Tyler Junior College Regional Training and Development Center.
ETCOG is the state-designated organization for municipal solid waste planning in East Texas. We serve as a central point of contact for solid waste management outreach, education, and training for its 14-county region.
In this class, participants will delve into advanced techniques for combating illegal dumping while addressing the challenges they face. They will explore laws on public health and public nuisances, water pollution, and hazardous waste, with a focus on THSC Chapter 365. Additionally, the class will emphasize the importance of officer safety and the unique threats encountered during environmental enforcement activities. It offers a comprehensive understanding of illegal dumping enforcement and equips participants with valuable knowledge to tackle this issue effectively.
“This is a great opportunity for regional solid waste management professionals to receive professional development to strengthen their efforts for their respective communities in East Texas. I also look forward to showcasing the new app staff has developed for the reporting of illegal dumping across the region. This feature will enhance the capabilities of identifying and resolving violations,” said ETCOG’s Community and Economic Development Manager, Chuck Vanderbilt.
The workshop is free to attend for eligible participants, which include city and county staff who have overall environmental enforcement responsibilities, local code enforcement officers, registered sanitarians, local peace officers, local health department officers, Local health authorities, specialized environmental enforcement officers, fire marshals, and firefighters, prosecutors, as well as other city and county staff, and elected officials needing a good understanding of the approaches available to assure a clean and pollutant-free community. Participants are eligible to earn CEUs during this workshop.
